Al O’Connor is President and Founder of HR CareerCoaching, a unique service for Human Resources professionals who desire to advance their careers through new employment.
Al has more than thirty years experience as a human resource professional, corporate officer, company president, business owner, business developer, consultant and president of an international career management association. He has been a significant contributor to two major company turnarounds and has developed a reputation as a change agent and a leader in the human resources community. In 2003, he founded the Senior Human Resources Executive Council (SHREC), an exclusive executive SHRM Chapter. He was presented with the SHRM Professional Excellence Award for the State of Arizona in 2003.
His consulting background began in business development and corporate client services for a Phoenix based Outplacement Company where he was Chief Operating Officer. He subsequently became president and co-owner of Nelson O’Connor & Associates, which, in two years, became Arizona’s leading outplacement and career management firm serving a large percentage of Arizona’s major companies. He eventually sold the firm to Right Management Consultants, a global consultancy specializing in corporate outplacement and organizational consulting where he was most recently Executive Vice President, Corporate Client Services for the Arizona/Nevada Region. He was named to Right’s President’s Club in 2001 and the Chairman’s Club in 2003 as one of the company’s top consultants worldwide.
Al’s corporate experience includes Director of Compensation for the Dial Corporation and for its parent company, The Greyhound Corporation, a Fortune 100 diversified conglomerate. He then served as Vice President, Human Resources for The Del Webb Corporation, a Phoenix based construction, real estate and leisure company with over 10,000 employees.
Al was one of the founding members of the International Association of Career Management Professionals, the professional development arm of the outplacement and career development industry. He served for two years as its Treasurer and two years as President where he restructured the organization to streamline communications and decision making resulting in increased membership.
Al received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Loyola University of Chicago and did graduate work at Loyola’s Institute of Industrial Relations.
